What are the differences in transmission principles and structural characteristics between cycloidal pinwheel reducers and worm gear reducers, as follows:

Transmission principle

Cycloid pinwheel reducer: It relies on the meshing between the cycloidal gear and the pinwheel to achieve deceleration. The double eccentric sleeve on the input shaft drives the cycloid wheel to perform both revolution and rotation in a planar motion, thereby achieving a deceleration effect, and then transmits the low-speed rotation motion of the cycloid wheel to the output shaft through the output mechanism.


Worm gear reducer: The reduction is achieved through the meshing transmission of the worm gear and worm gear. The axes of the worm gear and worm gear are usually perpendicular to each other, and when the helix angle of the worm gear is small, it has self-locking function, that is, only the worm gear can drive the worm gear to rotate, and the worm gear cannot drive the worm gear to rotate.

Structural characteristics

Cycloid pinwheel reducer: compact structure, small volume, and light weight. The input shaft and output shaft are on the same axis and are directly connected to the motor, reducing installation space. The meshing teeth between the cycloid gear and the needle gear are numerous, with a large overlap coefficient, smooth operation, and low noise.

Worm gear reducer: The structure is relatively simple, consisting of worm gear, worm gear, shaft, bearings, housing and its accessories. The box has a beautiful appearance and is made of high-quality aluminum alloy die-casting. The transmission ratio of the worm gear reducer is large, and it has self-locking function under certain conditions, but the efficiency is relatively low
